George "Goober" Lindsey Dies at Age 83
After suffering from an extended illness, George Lindsey died at the age of 83.
The actor is best known for his work on classic TV shows including “The Andy Griffith Show," "Gunsmoke" and "Hee Haw,” where he played his famed role of Goober from 1971 to 1993.
His longtime friend Andy Griffith released a statement that read, “George Lindsey was my friend. I had great respect for his talent and his human spirit. In recent years, we spoke often by telephone. Our last conversation was a few days ago… I am happy to say that as we found ourselves in our eighties, we were not afraid to say, ‘I love you.’ That was the last thing George and I had to say to each other. ‘I love you.’”
Lindsey will be buried in his hometown of Jasper, Alabama.
